Approximately 13,000 salaried persons are employed by the Finnish Defence Forces:

• In peacetime, approximately 13,000 salaried personnel are employed, one-third of whom are civilians or civilian-trained.
• Approximately 2,400 salaried personnel are women, of whom nearly 2,000 serve in civilian positions and the remainder in military positions.

As a rule, the Finnish Defence Forces train all of the military personnel they need.

Civilian personnel are recruited based on their education and work experience.
