Finland’s security environment changed fundamentally when Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine in February 2022, having already, in 2014, invaded and occupied Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula and started a low-intensity war in eastern Ukraine.

As a result of the events in 2022, Finland reassessed its security political situation and joined NATO. The fact that all of the Nordic countries belong to the same military alliance strengthens the stability and security of Finland, the Baltic Sea region, and Northern Europe.
