Defending the country has always been an important task for the Finnish Border Guard, and this is always carried out in cooperation with the Finnish Defence Forces. Border control, i.e. patrolling the terrain border and the sea area, constitutes the monitoring of territorial integrity. The Finnish Border Guard also trains conscripts. The special expertise of the conscript units includes reconnaissance and guerrilla operations.
The Border Jaeger companies of the Finnish Border Guard are located in the North Karelia Border Guard in Onttola and the Lapland Border Guard in Ivalo. Special Border Jaeger training is carried out at the Border and Coast Guard School in Imatra.
