Military security of supply

Military security of supply safeguards the operational capacity of the Defence Forces’ critical systems during disturbances in society:

  • Verification of technological know-how by deepening cooperation between the authorities and domestic and foreign defence industries
  • Supporting the export conditions and internationalisation of domestic industry in compliance with international obligations concerning defence equipment exports
  • The wartime capabilities of the Finnish Defence Forces are largely based on resources from other parts of society
  • Dependence on access to defence equipment from abroad

The MIL pool of the NESA supports the preparedness of companies critical to the military security of supply and the functioning of the defence system.

  • In addition to normal pool tasks, the operations of the MIL Pool focus on securing the critical capability, production and competence needed by the Defence Forces in emergency conditions and in the related increase in readiness.
  • The Pool’s operations cover those companies whose continued operations in emergency conditions create the preconditions for the use and maintenance of the Defence Forces’ wartime critical systems and the maintenance of essential expertise and production.
  • For the companies, this requires close cooperation with the Finnish Defence Forces during normal times, with the companies carrying out contingency planning under the guidance of the Finnish Defence Forces.
